Creativity and Attitude
I view creativity as a very practical intelligence, a distinguishing intelligence. Human beings are able to be creative in ways that other creatures are not. In fact, personal growth and development is a form of this practical intelligence. William James put it this way: "The greatest discover of my generation (19th century) is that human beings can alter their lives by altering their attitude of mind. . . . If you change your mind, you can change your life." To my way of thinking, that is the bottom-line power of creativity. Is there something that you need to alter in your life? Something that could help you be more successful? Alter your attitude. Imagine how you would like to think, behave, succeed. That's step one. Step two involves creatively coming up with some affirmations, some small steps, some action to take each day that can lead you toward your own path. As Benziger once put it: "It doesn't matter how well you walk your path if it's not your path."
