SAD/WS-diet and Memory
Think of food
either as a healthy medicine or as a slow poison for both animals and humans. Multiple
studies have shown that animals fed a Western-style diet (WS-diet) demonstrate
rapid impairments in hippocampal function and demonstrate poorer appetitive
control. In other words, they overeat. The hippocampi functions (and there are
two of them in the human brain) an ability to control appetite, along with
moving information from short- into long-term memory. There is also a decreased ability by the hipocampus to
search for filed information and retrieve it to aid recall.
